Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021!

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

We think it's safe to say that we’re ready to wave goodbye to possibly one of the strangest, saddest and most challenging years we've ever had - and welcome in a blank page, fresh with opportunity for life, and dare we say it; a semblance of normality.

But, before we say our final farewell, we thought it might be nice to take some goodness from the horror and look back at our accomplishments, and the positive things we took from it - with a rundown of our top 5 achievements of 2020.

No.1 Sp-Ring 2021

Way back in spring this year we held our annual Sp-Ring exhibition, which featured some incredible work from a selection of wonderful designers. Physical viewing of the exhibition was cut short following the March lockdown, but we continued to showcase the jewellery via our social media and it continued to be loved, admired and bought by many of you.

Below are some of the images of this beautiful work by the talented makers Justin Duance, Natalie Jane Harris, Alison MacLeod & Deborah Cadby.

No. 2 Lockdown 5th Birthday

Most people have had one this year and that includes us. A very different kind of birthday celebration; a lockdown birthday celebration. It wasn't the prosecco infused shindig that we usually like to have in the gallery to celebrate and gather.

But we took heart from the fact that we are still celebrating our gorgeous gallery and it's achievements, and that we can still bring you wonderful jewellery to lift moods and spirits - and never has that seemed more needed than in the past year.

So here's to more birthdays, healthier, safer times and more beautiful jewellery!

No. 3 Digital Craft Festival

A big highlight this year was the Digital Craft Festival - it was an absolute joy for us to be involved - showcasing our work and telling the story of the gallery and of the work that Anne creates.

Anne featured highly across the board and you might have caught her in conversation with Louise Jones-Williams of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, or the "Show and Tell" of the gallery work or even the Makers Conversation with the lovely Rebecca Burt, a fellow jeweller.

There was an abundance of workshops in the offing, and an abundance of gorgeous craft work across the spectrum. And it all took place in the face of a pandemic, demonstrating a wonderful sense of community between creatives and makers all over the UK - a triumph in the face of adversity!

No. 4 Digital Website and Gallery Makeover

This kind of snuck in the back door. The perfect storm of the lockdown, the enforced closure of the gallery and time on our hands - in a way that doesn't usually happen - meant that energy could be focused on a double revamp.

In the gallery, gone were the mix and match antique and vintage display tables and desks, and in came beautiful sleek new glass fronted floating display cases with beautifully lit jewellery, looking better than ever in their new homes.

With the website, we built an easy to use shop - making selection even easier - and in a time of Covid19, on-line moved to become the safest and most straightforward way of shopping - and we were there for you.

No. 5 Community

It is without doubt one of the best things that we can take from 2020. It's the wonderful sense of community and support that has emerged during such a strange and unsettling time.

As a local business we have seen both the public and fellow business owners in Penarth and the wider jewellery community pull together to lift each other up and look after each other.

And we want to thank you for that. Thank you for shopping with us, and engaging with us, and all the word-of-mouth love and social media love you have spread on our behalf. We value and appreciate it massively. If we take one thing from 2020 it will be precisely this!

Full Circle

And so that brings up back to 2021 and full circle to our Sp-Ring 2021 exhibition. We have a glorious list of makers heading our way for this and we cannot wait to share them with you. In the meantime here's who's exhibiting and also a few sneaky peeks at the rings that will be heading into the gallery early 2021. Fanfare please!

Jacks Turner

Jo Ponds

Yen (back by popular demand!)

Dagmar Korecki

Ami Pepper

Laura Ngyou

So 2021 is already looking bright and beautiful at the gallery and we can't wait to welcome you all back with this range of beautiful work sparkling, glinting and calling your name!

See you Next Year!

So that is us at Anne Morgan signing out of 2020, the roller-coaster of a year that saw us achieve brilliant things whilst also living through the craziest of times.

Here's to a brighter and healthier 2021.

Thank you all for coming on the ride with us, we can't wait to welcome you back as soon as we possibly and safely, can.
